The many thousands of different
carving tool shapes and sweeps are a mine field for
the beginner. At Robert Sorby we have simplified this
by offering 24 of the most universally used chisels,
together with 12 micro carving tools and 6 sculpturing
tools. The choice of type of tool is determined by
the scale of work to be undertaken.
When Robert Sorby re-introduced carving tools in 1993,
we took the opportunity to reappraise tool style and
radically revised conventional thinking:
- Special Sheffield alloy steel unique to Robert Sorby for edge tool manufacture
- Excellent balance because of the thinner blade sections
- Stringent heat treatment process to ensure the finest edge retention
- Polished to a razor sharp edge ready for use
Robert Sorby has manufactured the finest quality hand tools for over 200 years. Today's craftmen still use many of the traditional skills.
